Outset Germany_Switzerland was pleased to have supported the German Pavilion at the 57th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Susanne Pfeffer. Anne Imhof (b. 1978, Giessen) represented Germany in the 2017 Venice Biennale.
Since May 2016, Anne Imhof has worked on a spatially as well as temporally expansive work conceived especially for the pavilion. Her oeuvre bridges the divides between painting, sculpture, and installation as well as performance. In a sculptural setting designed specifically for the space and the occasion, the new piece unfolded unseen compositions, elaborated together with the core members of Imhof’s team. 'Faust' was both a five-hour production and a seven-month-long scenario comprised of performative dynamics, sculptural installations, painterly touches, and rigorously choreographed visual axes and movements that encompassed the entire pavilion. 'Faust' belonged to an unconditioned present, the essence of which was conveyed instantly to the audience.
Untitled (2017) by Anne Imhof was gifted to the Nationalgalerie Berlin as part of the support for the Venice Biennale in 2017.
