Outset Contemporary Art Fund Germany_Switzerland supports contemporary art and sees itself as a bridge between private patronage on the one hand and public cultural institutions, museums and artists on the other. Outset receives funds from committed private sponsors as well as from companies and other cooperative partners.
Involving international curators, the patrons and partners of Outset support productions, purchases and financing for public institutions. These include the major, leading international museums; but the spectrum extends to the small public collection, which needs support. Outset also supports exhibitions. However, this only possible in connection with the transfer of an artwork from the respective exhibition to Outset. The given artwork was then donated by Outset to a public institution. This assumption is owed to the Value Setting, which is the highest goal for Outset.
The projects are funded exclusively through applications from public institutions. This means that we bring art to museums which the institutions were asking for. Our funding is entirely independent of institutions.
What makes Outset so unique among many art-promoting institutions is the close contact with artists and the exchange with artists; always accompanied by curators. Outset supports artists at crucial points in their careers.
Between 2016-2021 Bettina Boehm M.A. was director of Outset Germany_Switzerland and led Outset from Berlin. Her engagement was an exclusively philanthropical one. Bettina Boehm studied art history, history and modern German philology. She worked closely together with Thomas Olbricht for the latter‘s art collection before he opened his ME Collector's Room in Berlin. As founding director of the 'Stiftung für das Museum Folkwang’, Essen, Germany she led a museum task force for the same institution with Hartwig Fischer (now director British Museum, London). Before Bettina Boehm was asked by Outset England to become director of Outset Germany_Switzerland she had been a patron of Outset Germany.
Outset perceives its own role in creating and fostering relations thus enabling private and corporate patrons to support selected art works financially or by strategic consulting.
