In November 2013, Outset Israel supported a collaboration of artists Maya Dunietz and Ghédalia Tazartès, who joined forces to create a new sound installation and performance project, Shulevi Maker, for voices, speakers and recorded materials. The installation was open for a whole weekend, with a special performance by the duo on Saturday night 30th November 2013. This work also went on tour at Café Oto, London on 2nd December 2013 and travelled to Counterflows Festival, taking place at the CCA in Glasgow on 5th April 2014.
Maya Dunietz is a pianist, composer, singer, choir conductor and sound installation artist. Her work ranges between solo performances, composing for ensembles around the world, writing for theatre, creating sound installations, building electronic instruments and singing in various styles including heavy metal, kleizmer and contemporary music. Maya founded the experimental vocal ensemble 'Givol Choir' and she is a member of the Israeli theatrical rock and polka band 'Habiluim'. Among her recent works Dunietz has created a special sound installation for the LunaPark in Berlin, a sound installation and performance project for Ausland, Berlin, a sound installation for Tectonics festival in Iceland, a new solo performance for the Swiss Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale. Her recent compositions include a new children's choir piece for the movie Zamach created by artist Yael Bartana, Olive Tree - a piece for ensemble and electronics commissioned by Hyperion Ensemble in Bucharest and Six Waves commissioned by Meitar Ensemble.
A French musician of Turkish parentage, Ghédalia Tazartès is an uncompromising artist who defies categorisation. His public appearances remain exceptional events as he rarely performs concerts or releases albums, but his recorded catalogue, starting with 1979's Diasporas, is cult material. As part of the Fondation Cartier Patti Smith exhibition in 2008, he revisited his last two albums. 5 Rimbaud 1 Verlaine (Jardin au Fou, 2006) is a musical and poetic experiment influenced by the world of Léo Ferré and the atmosphere of a noise festival. Hystérie off Music (Jardin au Fou, 2007) is an infernal musical montage that combines concrete music, imported laments and unidentified sound elements.
