In January 2012 Outset supported the production of Survivor, a collaboration between Hofesh Shechter and Antony Gormley, who for the first time worked together on a new musical work.
At the heart of the piece was a score by choreographer turned composer Hofesh Shechter, performed live by his band of 30 musicians, inviting the audience to immerse itself in his trademark percussive grooves, melancholy strings and atmospheric electronic soundscapes. Shechter has previously composed the score for all of his dance pieces and now he focuses his creative energy on the music and its performance in his first concert. Set within the visual landscape created by sculptor Antony Gormley, the Barbican stage itself became an instrument to be played, in a unique sensory experience.
