The Young V&A Design Programme will take place primarily in the museum’s Design Gallery, which introduces visitors to stories of creativity and social change through art and design. Central to the ‘Space to Make’ programme will be the Open Studio, a space that remains visible and active throughout the day, allowing young visitors to engage in facilitated or self-directed design activity. Adjacent to this will be the Shed, a workspace where designers will develop their practice, collaborate with young audiences and share work in progress.
The programme will offer activity tailored to different age groups, from early childhood play to more advanced skills such as mending, weaving and printing.
Themes will include inclusive design, creative innovation and materials-based learning, supported by a growing materials library. The programme will also host six-month Shed Placements, providing designers with mentoring, co-design support and opportunities for public engagement.
