Art Basel Awards: Azu Nwagbogu

Dear Partners,

We are pleased to share that Azu Nwagbogu, Founder and Director of the African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) and Founder of LagosPhoto Festival, has been recognised as a 2026 Art Basel Awards Medalist in the Curator category.

On 18 June, Azu will join acclaimed artist and filmmaker Arthur Jafa for a public conversation as part of the inaugural Art Basel Awards programme, a new global initiative recognising individuals and organisations shaping the future of contemporary art. Arthur Jafa has been recognised in the Established Artist category.

For those who are in Basel, the conversation will take place on Thursday 18 June from 1:00–1:30pm as part of Art Basel’s public Conversations. Please RSVP by Monday 15th here. A recording of the conversation will be available on Basel's YouTube channel following the event, and we will circulate it once it has been released.
