6th September 2021 – 13th February 2022
Outset Germany_Switzerland is pleased to announce a donation to Museum Abteiberg, consisting of the six film productions of the KW Production Series (2018–2020). The series consists of moving image-based works by artists of different generations, media approaches and artistic practices. Following the online screenings organised throughout 2021, Museum Abteiberg concluded the presentation by showing all productions of the series in the context of the museum collection.
Six new works by Andrea Büttner, Beatrice Gibson, Jamie Crewe, Onyeka Igwe, Lin+Lam and Rachel O’Reilly entered the permanent collection and expanded the museum’s film-based works. This donation provided an important addition to its existing archives of media-based art, which include works by Hanne Darboven, David Lamelas, Robert Morris, Gordon Mata Clark, Mark Leckey, Jeroen de Rijke/Willem de Rooij and Tacita Dean, as well as recently acquired productions by Cécile B. Evans, Steve McQueen, Britta Thie and Hiwa K.
The works donated are:
Andrea Büttner 'What is so terrible about craft? / Die Produkte der menschlichen Hand' 2019, 34m
Beatrice Gibson 'I hope I'm loud when I'm dead' 2018, 21m
Jamie Crewe 'Pastoral Drama' 2018, 30m
Onyeka Igwe 'A So-Called Archive' 2020, 20m
Lin+Lam 'Three Missing Letters' 2021, 25m
Rachel O'Reilly 'INFRACTIONS' 2019. 63m
The KW Production Series is a project dedicated to the moving image, initiated in 2018 by the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in collaboration with OUTSET Germany_Switzerland and the Julia Stoschek Collection. It is produced by Mason Leaver-Yap. The presentation at Museum Abteiberg was curated by Haris Giannouras.
