Outset Scotland was delighted to have supported the inaugural Bothy Project Residency at Sweeney’s Bothy on the Isle of Eigg, which was built as part of Creative Scotland's Year of Natural Scotland 2013.
In Spring 2014, Canadian artist Gareth Moore participated in a week-long residency at Sweeney's Bothy - a dedicated artist residency space, purpose-built to offer direct creative engagement with the Scottish wilderness. This residency offered a period of research to support Moore’s exhibition of new work at Glasgow Sculpture Studios, as part of Glasgow International 2014.
Born in 1975, Moore works in the form of wry performances and complex ephemeral sculptures that blur the lines between art and life. He typically pushes against the established and conventional frameworks of presentation and reception of art. His works subversively examine habits of consumerism and the concept of recycling. Objects and installations are usually fashioned out of unorthodox or discarded materials, and his collaborations find him working with people and places from a non-art perspective, in an attempt to relate art to that of everyday occurrences.
